HON. LYDIA SEYRAM ALHASSAN DONATES MOTORBIKES AND STREET LIGHTS TO UG

Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon has donated a car and two motor bikes to the University of Ghana. The Honorable MP extended this gesture as part of measures to help the University of Ghana and the Ghana Police to beef up security to deal with security challenges on campus. The vice chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu together with some members of the University authority were present to receive the donation on behalf of the university. This gesture is timely, and it has come on the back of recent security issues particularly robbery attacks on students. According to the Hon MP, the donations are to aid in increasing the visibility of security and enhanced security patrols on campus. She intimated to the leadership of the University that she is committed and willing to do everything in her power to augment the efforts of the University in dealing with security challenges on campus.  Hon. CID invites Ofosu Ampofo for questioning

THE CRIMINAL Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has invited the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to answer questions on allegations of kidnappings and arson. According to the CID, individuals it has picked up so far on suspicions of kidnapping and arson have mentioned Mr. Ofosu Ampofo “as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country.” Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is already standing trial for an alleged leaked tape in which he was purportedly heard instigating the assassination and kidnapping of certain persons in a bid to present the country as unsafe. He also threatened ‘war’ against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa. Alabi returns to UPSA

Prof Alabi 'returns' to University of Professional Studies The man credited for transforming the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) into a first-class University and becoming his its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Joshua Alabi, has returned to the institution amidst jollity and camaraderie.  He visited to witness the commissioning of his last infrastructural project, the state of the art and multipurpose auditorium. The defeated flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) toured the giant facility and visited the two levels of underground car parks.  During the tour of the solar-powered ¢77 million auditorium, Prof Alabi also visited the media room which also serves as a security monitoring room controlling all the cameras installed on the campus.  The auditorium has a seating capacity of 3,550 and a two-level underground car park. Furthermore, it has conference facilities, offices for seminars and training programmes

EC ordered to allow Ghanaians abroad vote in 2020

An Accra High court has handed down to the Electoral Commission a 12-month deadline to operationalise the law granting Ghanaians living abroad the right to vote. This was after  the Commission failed to meet an earlier deadline of December 201 8 handed it by the High court in December 2017. Justice Nicholas Abodakpi observed the EC has had new Commissioners who have shown a commitment that appeared missing under the previous administration. But the court did not end the sitting without awarding cost against the EC for failing to prioritise the implementation of the  Representation of the People (Amendment) Act (ROPAA)  passed in 2006. A cost of 8,000 cedis went the way of the plaintiffs, a group of Ghanaians living abroad who represented by Samson Lardy Anyenini as counsel have sustained pressure on the Electoral Commission. They had asked for 20,000 cedis after providing evidence showing the EC has failed to prioritize implementation of the law. It was this group that

PAUL ASARE ANSAH SPONSORS ASUOGYAMAN SPELLATHON, 2019

In fulfilment of his promise, Paul Asare Ansah, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Transport has taken up the entire budget of GHC9,000 for the grand finale of this year's Inter Circuit Spelling Competition for Junior High and primary schools in Asuogyaman. Presenting the amount to the District Director of Education, Mr. Ansah hinted that the donation was part of the 2019 sponsorship package provided by him to help improve the standard of education in the district. The event which takes place at the Church of Pentecost, Atimpoku on 4th June, 2019 will produce a "spellaking or queen" to represent Asuogyaman at the regional level. Reacting to Mr. Ansah's gesture, the District Director of Education, Mrs. Theodora Kutorku Entee praised his strong commitment to promote excellence in educational sector.
